Tuesday Flying in the UP

Postby Mobius » Thu Oct 29, 2009 3:59 pm

I flew up to Luce County Airport in the upper peninsula of Michigan on Tuesday and took a few pictures along the way that I thought I would share...

Nice shots Mobius... :)

Quick question if you don't mind.  What type of trees are they around that small body of water, they look like a white pine or spruce.

What ya gotta do.. is plan for a night or two in the area. KERY is an OK airport, but it's nothing special, and it's not well located for a U.P. scenic flying base.

83D (St. Ignace), is a VERY nice airport; with a big, high-ceiling lodge feel to it.. fireplace.. great planning room.. leather sofas..

Great pix, and how weird that I was thinking about this area today, when I  heard the song about the Edmund Fitzgerald...

Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

Reminds me that I really have to fly up there some time.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

The Upper Penninsula is a world of it's own  8-)  I was born and raised there, and sure do miss it.  A beautiful area to visit is Munising, there are lots of waterfalls, and you can take a cruise along the Pictured Rocks shoreline in Lake Superior.

I could type up a whole page of beautiful places to visit in the U.P. haha, I'm still trying to get my wife to all of them, since she is from the south.
