Security Doug.....we've already seen work-ups around our Base here (Comox). Our F-18's, and Orions from the States, are going to be using this as an alternate jumping off point, since we're also close to the main skiing venue(Whistler/Blackcomb).......actually the control zone here monitors a very large area of airspace.....

Seriously? Nuclear subs for protection? One hell of a big budget  ;D
Are we doing anything like that for 2012?

The USN will be supplying the sub, Vancouver international will hold many military aircraft in the Air Canada Hangars, A nuclear sub will be placed inside the harbor by Canada place and follow the waters near where Obama is, and so you guys get pictures of destroyers, i plan on renting a boat to get closer... but not so close i get shot

" It seems Air Canada is temporarily renting space at one of its Vancouver International Airport hangars to the Department of National Defence. Defence Construction Canada is looking for a company to do $1.5 million of work by Oct. 1. Few details are included in the procurement document. Air Canada has not returned my phone calls or emails. Joint Task Force Games in Victoria and NORAD in Winnipeg are equally dumbfounded.

There must be someone in the federal government who can talk about how part of YVR will be turned into an air force base for the 2010 Winter Olympics, just like it was for World War II." -Bob Mackin

Seems to me the cost of hosting the Olympics is escalating out of all proportion to its importance. Makes me wonder whether it's worth all the trouble.

I believe many things like this have become TOO important.  But I don't want to get into politics.

England holding it at Beijing? We can't really hold it at Beijing.
But the UK is hosting the 2012 Olympics.
I think these 2010 Vancouver ones are the Winter Olympics; like skiing.
