My First Flight

Postby tcco94 » Sun Oct 18, 2009 1:30 am

Well another teen on the forums gets to fly his first flight in a Cessna 152. ;)

My dad was aware of how much I loved the flying on the sim and how I was telling him alot about Embry Riddle and once he saw the price he wanted to get me flying faster so I would know if its really what I wanna do. Well thats a win-win for me because now I can get my Pilots License faster than I planned and he suprised me with this flight. Well I didnt think I was going to do much flying but I did alot. We did some taxi practice, learned more about the rudder pedals today than I ever knew while flying in the sim. After that we had to wait along the runway today the airport was PACKED with small jets and other pilots. It was a nice day, somewhat windy but he said he wasnt sure why it was so busy. I took off learned the trim and what not. I wont lie the first 10 minutes I was freaking out

Another pilot in the making, bit by the bug.... ;D

A cure is almost impossible. The only thing that makes it bearable is to go flying... ;D

My flight instructor was always reminding me to look out the windows and scan instead of fixating on the instruments.

But on the other hand, I always did well with the instrument flying that was required to get my PPL. My instructor used to give me a hard time, telling me that according to statistics, private pilots only had XX seconds after getting into a cloud before they crashed, but it would take me that long to even notice I was in a cloud... ;D

But she eventually broke me of some of the bad habits I had developed from FS...

That is typical of people that have lots of flight sim experience before learning to fly.  Since the visual and "seat of the pants" aspect of flight sim is limited to say the least, most have learned to rely on instruments.
