Been gone a while, thought I'de drop in

Postby TacitBlue » Wed Sep 23, 2009 7:35 pm

Hi all, some of you may remember me, some may not. I used to be very active in this forum, but not for the last couple of years. Anyway, I thought I would drop in and try to stick around a while. First and foremost I wanted to show off my new hobby, it hasn't really taken the place of flight sim, just supplemented it. What I have done is to install a 2 stroke engine on a bicycle. Here it is right after I got it all set up ( that's my dog in the background ::)).

Here is a more recent picture, I've added saddle bags and a longer exhaust pipe.

Here is a closer view of the engine:

I use the bike to go to the grocery store and for casual joy riding around the neighborhood. It can do up to 28mph on flat ground, but I like to keep it around 25. It's loads of fun and if you are really interested in getting into this then check out gasbike.net, that's where I got my engine kit for only $109. No I'm not a salesman, but people always ask what it costs. Well, I hope you like the pics and I'm looking forward to getting back into this forum.

Bye for now,
Tacit.

Nice to see you again, TB. How long does a tank of gas last you?

Hi Flyboy,

I haven't actually measured my gas mileage, but the sellers all advertise 100 - 150 mpg, which I think is a little exaggerated. I would guess I get around 40 miles to the tank and for the riding I do that lasts almost all week.

Hi Mobius,

Glad you like it! It sure is a fun hobby and I hope you do build one of these bikes. As for the aircraft maintenance... Well, I'm a licensed A&P now, and I have over 30 resumes out all across the country. I haven't heard back from anyone yet, but it has to happen eventually. I'm trying to get into a GA shop, but if I don't find something soon, I may have to go with a regional airline for now. We'll see. ;)

Ahoy there Tacit,

Great to see you back on the forums. That bike is crazy (Ace! but crazy...), I love it, would love to have a go. I could see Dr Emmet Brown riding that, or even (dare I say it) Fozz.

LOL, what have I started?! :)

The only real recommendation I have for you guys is to get a bike with front shocks. Rigid forks can actually be dangerous.

Good luck, and if you run into any problems let me know. If I can't figure it out, I know of a good forum for motorized bikes. ;)

Everyone needs a hobby TacitBlue and you have picked a good one.... :)

Now are you planning on turning this thing into an "Ultra Light" with folding wings?  Now that would be something to see.  The wings could be used as covers when it rains...hmmm...me thinks I am getting an idea here.   ::)

Good to see you back on line... ;)

Very nice, and glad to see you back (although I don't know you that well). I actually used to live near Saint Joseph in St. Louis, MO

I saw someone riding one of these bikes the other day and wondered about doing this with my old man maybe... We'll see. This gives me more motivation though ;)
