I think my memory of the star is slightly rose-tinted, still they both bring back some great memories.

There was a Hornby brochure with the Star, describing it as a 'New' model, coming in 1974! So it's older than I am, and despite the damage I think that I'm the one now showing my age  ;)

Many happy hours playing with this one, be amazed if it still works, very well used condition!

I don't remember this one ever working, so maybe the damage wasn't my fault, it could have been broken before I even came along......at least that's the story I'm going to stick to  :-X. You can see the tender wheels exposed, and the broken linkage expertly repaired with blu-tack  :-[. The front con-rods are straight now at least and run into the pistons ok, I only ever remember the wheels being completely locked due to the damage. There are also supposed to be two wires going from the engine to the tender, as it is the main wheels that act as the pickup, these are broken, and the screw to attach the tender to the engine is also missing

This Coronation is a few years old and Hornby have made a small upgrade since, but it is essentially the same as this one.

Hornby discontinued their 9F some years back and Bachmann promptly stepped in with this version. It is quite stunning. They did an

It's a 50/50 combination of factory weathering and household dust! ;) ;D
