Shuttleworth Military Pageant

Postby Hagar » Mon Jul 06, 2009 8:51 am

I took a chance on the weather & went to this event at Old Warden yesterday. Just before the show was due to start some huge black clouds came rolling in & it started to rain. The display started in very dull conditions but fortunately the sun broke through & we had bright sunshine for the second half of the show. Probably the best weather for any air show I've been to this year.

The theme of the show was the Royal Navy. The Collection's Sea Hurricane takes off to start the tribute.

It's rather ironic & disappointing in the Centenary year of Naval Aviation that all the aircraft of the RNHF are apparently grounded for the rest of the season. They don't seem to have had much luck in recent years. :(
Not as impressive a line-up as previous years but at least we had a couple of private visitors to represent them.

All excellent shots Doug, really like the A-1 Skyraider, one of my favorite planes. Mark

Thanks for sharing Doug, those are lovely shots (especially the Seafire, of course I'm biased) ;)

The Collection's Sopwith Triplane relica.

Late Production model ;) :)

Not much in it from what I hear, just a hazard of operating little old aeroplanes.

We made the mistake of going to Waddo. Nice day out, but that wasn't really due to the show or the flying display.

Indeed. It hit a bump after landing in a gusty crosswind. I don't think the wing-tip even touched the ground. Here's a shot taken after the "incident".

And one of the reasons they often land the WWI types "off-piste" in the longer grass. :)

A little short-handed with the RNHF planes, but at least the sun decided to oblige. ;D A very nice set, always nice to see that Triplane!!  8-)
