Glider resto update: moving right along

Postby beaky » Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:27 pm

Big day today- we got a lot done, including the first coat of what will be the final finish color (Insignia White, I believe).

The elevator finally came back from the "hospital", with some new braces and a little beefing-up on some welds on the other side. Here's how it looked before we sandblasted and epoxied it today. We're hoping to stat covering it tomorrow.

There's a hinged window for the rear-seater... the frame was already cleaned up and painted, and we installed some new Lexan today. Done!

Finally did the etching, Alumi-Dyne, and a coat of epoxy on the vertical stab, main canopy frame, and the horizontal stab. struts.

The highlight of today was, of course, seeing 94H sporting the first coat of Poly-Tone... sexy!!

I knew you boys would be chugging along today. Absolutely great weather today. Unfortunately, my lens was nowhere near a winged craft. :(

Good job Sean......keep reminding everyone on the project about "WING LOADING"..........don't add any more weight than absolutely necessary......that includes paint layers........after all, it is dependent on minimum sink rate (Max L/D) to make it to that next thermal, for long flights......

Rest assured we are aware of that... The informed consensus is that so far, we are doing a good job keeping the weight down... but the proof will be in the pre-flight weight/balance check.  Our chief instructor has been dieting, to... that will help. ;D
