A little flying for a change

Postby beaky » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:51 pm

Work on the gilder started a little late today... first order of business was a breakfast run to Sky Manor. I finally got a little stick time in the Citabria, but from the back, and no landings. It was great just to do some flying, and a perfect morning to do so.

We were a flight of two, with JP heading out first in his L3. We formed up for a bit- long enough for me to get a few decent air-to-air shots thru the window. It was a lot farther away than it looks- this picture is heavily cropped. Not bad, although this is the only one without really annoying reflections.

Gus slips it in to Sky Manor...

This very nice Cub was visiting (or is it based there? I dunno).

A glamour shot of the L3 and Citabria:

We did some more work on the glider, but I'll post pics after tomorrow, when we get even more done, and it (I hope) will be ready for finish paint.

Looks like one of those flights that makes you remember why you love flying in the first place. :)

Hey, that's a wonderful ride! Thanks for taking us along...

I always wonder how that goes, a pilot sitting behind/after another pilot during landing...

Pilot 1: ok, we're going in...
Pilot 2: you sure you wanna go in at this angle?
Pilot 1:yeah
Pilot 2: you're gonna mess up
Pilot 1: No I'm not
Pilot 2: Yes you are
Pilot 1: No I'm not
Pilot 2: Mind the crosswind
Pilot 1: AAAAAAARGHHHH

;D

Crosswinds can be pretty brutal at Sky Manor. It's all open fields around the airport, so there's really nothing to help out the approach. Then you usually float for half the runway, decide to go around and f*ck it up again. ;D
