Got My New K98 Mauser

Postby BFMF » Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:30 pm

Ok, maybe it was new when it was made during WW2, but hey, it's still my new rifle.... ;D

I've been wanting one for a long time now, and the prices are slowly going up so I figured I may as well get one while I still can. It's in beautifull condition, has matching numbers on the reciever, bolt, stock, ect. It even has the German eagle still stamped on barrel, reciever, and the bolt

And for a little bullet size comparison....

Left to Right: .223/5.56, 7.62x39, .30-06 Springfield, 7 mm Remington Magnum, and the 7.92x57 Mauser

Took it out shooting this afternoon, and shoots great... 8-)

And no, I'm NOT trying to start another gun control argument, just showing my little piece of history... ;)

I still don't understand the American obsession with firearms but perhaps that comes from growing up gun free in the UK.

Other than that, it looks a very well crafted piece of kit.

Grrrr....

...I been looking for a authentic DRM K98K for years now...:P

...and I friggin have found a Chinese Chang Kai Shek and a Mexican* model before a Deutsche one. :P

...actually, the only Deutsche one I have ever seen had its front sight removed for a scout scope...and even that wasn't for sale.

Jeff

*Yes, MEXICAN.

I think most Europeans will find it hard to understand...

It's a piece of history for sure... Hope it never ever gets used again for it's intended purpose... shoot some cans instead, ok?  ;)

Wow, thats a brilliant Karabiner. It looks new, considering its age. ;)

Think you can get an MG42?  :P

I equally can't understand Europeans not being allowed the freedom to own firearms. It seems to me that this puts Europeans in a position that they couldn't defend themselves and could easily taken over by a hostile nation. Sound familiar? :-/

Nice looking K98 - I had a chance in the 1970's to buy a MP-40 for $700.00. Back then that was allot of money and I couldn't come up with the cash fast enough. It was at a local gun show.

To this day I kick myself for that lost purchase as well as a pair of P-38's for $125.00 each at a local pawn shop..... :-[

Gorgeous "Boom Stick" you got there, would love to fire something like that!  I'm still saving up for my Deagle, after that I'll get my next rifle, most likely a low powered semi auto, maybe an AR-15.

The ranges in Iraq were the best, just a machine gun free for all LOL.

For those of you questioning why America loves firearms...it's because they are fun to shoot.  Pick a target out around 300 meters, figure out what you need to do to hit it, squeeze the trigger ever so gently so you don't jerk the gun, and you have instant results, either hit or miss.  There's lots of concentration and basic fundamental skills involved, it's not just "spray and pray" like Rambo...especially with "iron sights" at long range.  (no scope)

In Iraq I brought my .50cal gun truck out to the range twice a week and hopped in the turret, spent 10 minutes up there making all kinds of noise, and left feeling satisfied that I just spent about $5,000 in ten minutes of Gov money.  ;D  The .50cal is especially satisfying, you get a bit of a "thump" in your chest with each round fired...

I didn't think it would be legal to own an MG42.

When I get the chance to acquire a license, I will try to find a Walther P99 and a match-grade M14/M21.

Never really felt the need to have high powered weapons like the Desert Eagle or AK.

It's not a need, it's just a passion, the Desert Eagle is a beautiful piece of equipment, and being able to fire such a big round without shoulder support is pretty fun.   And the AK, as much as I hate it, is capable of firing after being drug through mud and dirt without jamming.  It's like the Jeep of assault rifles.  I would never own one, but the way it is built is repectable.

By need, I mean that I never really felt the need to add the Eagle to my collection. The P99 and the M21 are already beautiful enough.

I've never really liked the same guns as everyone else, others want an Eagle or USP, I want a P99. Others want an M82, I want an M21. Others want an M16, I want an L85A1. :P

Sure it is. I know someone who legally owns an M-60. He had to get it
