We had one pass through here last year, belongs to the CAF I think.  I'll have to find the pictures.

Good morning all... :)

One of the easiest ways to tell both aircraft apart is by their tails.  The "Buff" has a "T" tail and the "Bou" has a "Split" tail.  There are many other differences but that is the easiest way I found.

Sound, Doug......the sound..........you know the radial noise.........that and the tail are the dead giveaway..........I fondly remember a hop around the Bay of Quinte as a Cadet, in the mid 60's on a Caribou.........I thought the windows were going to pop out of the frames along the sides of the fuselage.........got my hands on the wheel in the right seat for a few mins too, but the best was the very short landing at Trenton.........ah, memories......... 8-)

Yup you are right Ken and I think they did put a gas turbine on the Caribou as well.

You should be able to get lots of shots of the "Buff" out your way as that is where they are all based now I think.

Two great aeroplanes the Canadian Government did everything in their power to stop from being civilian certified in Canada.  Pity.  All they wanted to do is kill our avaition industry which was the leader in the 50's.

Our airline wanted to buy the Caribou to replace the DC3s we were using.  The Caribou was ten times the aeroplane however because of the rear drop down ramp the Canadian Government would not civilian certify it.
There was even going to be a four engined aircraft like the Caribou long before the Lockheed C130 Hercules was developed.   The Canadian Government squashed that one as well.

What is the skuttle but on them two Mars Flying Boats you folks have out there or have they gone south?

Good morning all... :)

Thanks Ken and do you ever get over to Viking where they do the modifications to the DeHavilland Otters and Beavers?

Would be nice to see some shots of that process if you are in the neighbourhood along with what ever you find in the line of flying boats or seaplanes.
