Picked up a new lens!

Postby Fly2e » Thu Feb 26, 2009 8:43 am

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a lens that I have wanted for a long time.
It is the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX is an ultra-wide angle lens.

I have not really played with it much but shot these (of myself) to see.
The 1st one is self timer and really shows the width of the lens.

the 2nd shot really shows how wide this is. I am standing in my AV closet! I have tried this shot before with my other wide angle but never got an effect like this. The closet is very tight and it did a real nice job of getting everything in!

This is pretty cool! This is a red bowl with some decorative balls in it. I was pretty close to it and the detail is great with this lens!

I will post some more when I get around to taking some more shots! Should be real nice in tight spots... like the flight deck!  ;)

8-)

What's the point of the mirror in the AV room? To make it feel bigger? :P :)

Very cool! I'm not familiar with wide body lenses, what exactly do they do? Do they give you a panorama-ish view without the 10^5 resolution?

Ok, well, someone has to say it so it might as well be me:
Nice balls. ;) ;D ;D

My wife asked me the same question! LOL!
We had no place to put it in the house and it is a gift from our wedding. On the back are the lyrics to the song we danced to and it is a custom made mirror... I had to put it someplace  ;)

Very nice Dave....(lens and pics)...I'm still in two minds whether to purchase a super wide lens (probs canon 10-22) or just a standard 17-50....

Good afternoon all... :)

Know very little about cameras Dave but those shots look very nice.

Ken "Rifleman" has me convinced to purchase a camera and we are just waiting for one of our children who is an amateur photographer to go with us.

I have not got a clue what half these salespeople talk about when they are trying to get money out of my wallet.   ::)

I do like the idea of what your camera can do, I think the old girl and I would find that beneficial when on a trip together.

Having a lense that will do everything with a camera that is fully automatic, like adjusting light settings and distance.
I am thinking of an approach to a runway, getting the whole picture and then as you are just about over the numbers still being able to get a good wide view rather than say looking down a tube.

Thanks for the idea and shots Dave.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Very sharp and clear images from the lens. Lets see more of your work out in the field. :D

How fast is this lens Dave ?.......the first shot looks to be nicely lit - flash or natural light with adjusted WB for the tungsten indoor lighting ?

Looks like flash to me according to the reflection in the window...I could be wrong though, and I do agree, nice lighting!

Hello Ken, it is fast... f/2.8 aperture. That was one of the main things about the Tokina Lens compared to the Tamron lens.. this lens was faster.

I am using a flash here, the Nikon SB4000 bouncing it off the ceiling with a diffuser on the head.

Thanks again!

Dave
