KSFO...A Proper Welcome Home...

Postby BigTruck » Mon Feb 23, 2009 10:07 pm

...for my boys of Truck Platoon, 23rd Marine Regiment  (yes they are actually called Truck Plt...I didn't give them that name, their focus in Iraq was convoys)  They just returned from a ten month pump in Iraq.

I drove bus #2 as you can see from my pics, we went and met them out on the Tarmac.  The City of San Francisco as well as San Bruno showed up to give their support, providing a full police escort back to the base, and two ladder trucks and a rescue truck meeting us at the gates of our training center with the ladders fully extended and Stars and Stripes flying high up on the ladder.

We also had a biker club show up to escort us with the CHP.  All I can say is, it was a cool drive back to the training center, the freeway was cleared for us, cars were honking, CHP blocked all intersections, I had fun.  It was a great to welcome our boys home!

The trucks then drove over to our deplaning area lights and sirens blaring

Time to take them to their families

A bunch of vets and bikers assisted with the escort, very cool guys!

Now that's the way to do it. Thanks for sharing, Sarge. I give my marine cousins nothing but the utmost respect for their tours in the Middle East.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Where's the navy guys :P?................ ;D

Nice escort  8-) glad to see them safely home but I have a real question. I see when welcoming airplanes into airports they always spray hoses at the aircraft? Like when an A380 was arriving they did that?
Why do they do that?

Yessir, all present and accounted for  8-)  A successful tour in Iraq, no casualties, a few injuries but nothing combat related and nothing permanent.  I'm proud of my boys  :)

We sail back to our home ports (Norfolk, San Diego, etc). An extra few days on a ship beats flying AirTran. :P
