T34 update

Postby expat » Sun Jan 25, 2009 3:45 pm

A small update to the 1:16 scale T34 from Trumpeter. Still lot to do, but it is coming along. I have been trying weather the hull and tracks. What is not so clear is the mud on the tracks and road wheels. The effect is better than the pictures show. C&C welcome.

All that mud on it really looks great!

It looks like it was in the field for a while and needs to be taken to the wash rack.... ;D

Looks pretty cool to me, of course I don't know anything about mideling. That's something I'd really like to try.

Nothing short of excellent Matt!  After completion you should enter that in a show.

Very nice, you should paint some Russian words on the sides of the turret, like this...

Not sure, still umming and arring about it. Problem being, it is 1:16 in scale and any diorama will end up being rather large.

You can do a lot even with 3CM's on all sides, just rotate the tank under 15/30 degree and then add some charter to the scene.

Matt, you mentioned about adding mud. I can't really tell what method you used, but recently my brain finally snapped to life and reminded me that many modelers use wetted tissue for such effects.

I use wet tissue for other stuff (to come) such as tarpaulins and fabric. It makes it lay better. The mud was plastic putty that is thinned down a little. There is no real standard way of doing this and each modeler has different ideas. Mine generally come from looking at what I have in my model bit and bobs box and Googling the problem/idea. From that I come up with an answer.
