Not flown in the past two weeks... Been quite unlucky with the weather and yet again today the cloud base was just too low. :( Here's a few pics from a few weeks a go when the weather was a little better... Bring on summer soaring fun! :D

It's a winch, for launching the gliders.
Nice set, Luke... I like that nice slippery glider you have there.

Do the gliders just get their alt from thermals after they launch from a winch?  Doesn't seem like they would get very high, yet the pic shows him pretty far up... :-?

OH I see, the cable stays attached even after they lift off, must be a really long cable!!   ;D

Yeah... T'is quite a long stretch of cable. Each drum has around 2000m, or 1.3 miles of cable. Can winch you up to around 2500ft on a good windy day but you averagely get around 1600-1800ft. Depends on how charitable the winch driver is with the throttle!
