Salisbury v York

Much too cold for this sort of thing but hey :P

Salisbury went up in the 40th minute thanks to an hilarious goalkeeping error from Ingham (went to clear and mishit leaving the ball rolling towrdas the net for a salisbury player to tap in :P ). York equalised in the second half though :)

Anyway, here's the substandard pics (I've never done a floodlit football match before lol :P )

York in blue, Salisbury in white

Good job, not easy shooting in that light.
As a side note I was on track to play for Salisbury many moons ago. I was a Midfielder for Andover town youth team, Salisbury was the next step as was the southampton youth team, thanks to my form tutor being a former southampton player and talent scout. Unfortunatly I grew less and less interested in playing and then moved to Bristol.

Yeah I was going to ask what the hell happened in that last pic, everyone is bending over and one has skid marks  ;D

Looks like you had some good seats close to the action for some fine pictures

Now that's something I want to try one day, but never got around to. Did you use the 100-400L?

I agree there's a bit room for improvement (looks like the shuttertime was to long, but the exposure is excellent!), but I like the actionshots a lot, because they do have the atmosphere of a match! Well done!

Yeah....all with the 100-400....

I couldn't improve the shutter speed....they were all at 1600 ISO and at f4-5.6 (depending on length) :P

Not bad Mic. I've tried several times & know how difficult it is to get decent photos under these conditions. To have any chance of success I think I would need far better quality lenses than I can afford.

Yeah, I think an f2.8 would have been handy :P

The press guy just in front of me had a 400mm f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8 both on 1Ds MkIIIs.....so that's how they do it :P :P

Coming from someone from a country where it takes about half a day to play a "football" game consisting of four quarters of 15 minutes! ;) ;D (although I admit I did find the re-run on ESPN Classic of the 1988 Oklahoma v Oklahoma State College game quite riveting on Friday!) :)

On the plus side Mic, at least that man Ingham sounds well qualified for the England number 1 shirt. ;D
