[quote][quote][quote]Nah.. no license required for ammunition; nor for the weapon.

We are required however, to purchase a hunting license before shooting the deer. That money goes to the Department of Natural Resources to help fund wildlife management.

That's a fine rifle, and 6mm is a good deer round.

How will the money for a hunting license help when your off away killing the deer?

It's actually a terrific system, limiting the number of deer allowed to be hunted.  The money funds the DNR so they can hire more people, or purchase the proper equipment to catch poachers, and it regulates hunting, only allowing hunters so many deer per season so they aren't killed off.  It works itself out, full circle.

Deer are hunted for their meat, which is delicious.  They aren't just killed for the sake of killing.  If someone gets lucky and bags a big buck, then more power to them, now they have a trophy on their wall.  But the purpose of hunting is to stock the freezer with venison meat, which by the way, is terrific!!!!

If the population of deer isn't controlled through hunting the deer herds will become overpopulated resulting in the starvation and death of many more deer than are hunted. The monies collected through hunting licenses helps to fund wildlife management.
Some areas have also considered the re-introduction of wolves to help manage deer herds.

I always enjoyed silhouette shooting. There's something satisfying about getting a hit on a sheep silhouette from 200 yds out with a 45-70 shooting a 400 grain black powder load from a carbine rilfle with a relatively short 18.5" barrel, all while standing and countering a stiff breeze. At that range the bullet drops about 2 ft. ;D
