Christmas came early (nearly)

Postby machineman9 » Sat Nov 22, 2008 8:53 am

Just went down to the shops to get my Christmas/birthday present (The two dates are two months apart, but because of what it was, my parents split it for both those occasions)

My new camera, for airshow and possibly some model photography - If my sister's boyfriend can get me a photoshoot in LA next summer!

Canon EOS 1000D (18-55mm)
8gb SDHC card
Tamron 70-300mm
Stealth Reporter D100 carry case
2x filters, one per lens
Display protector

All from Jessops. Really good customer support. I was very pleased. Price seemed to be fairly good... I think the Tamron lens came half price as bought with the camera. One of the filters came free due to a

Ah, a new camera is your new best friend.  Take it lots of places, you never know when theres an awsome shot out there

Well I know we are definately going to the states next year. Where I live is far from a photogenic area, but I can still make good use of it the rest of the time.

Should definately help if I do get put on the A-level media course... Be able to get decent photos!!

It is quite a leap up from my K800i phone camera and my rubbish Olympus, but over time it should be easy enough to get used to.

Enjoy your new toy ( once you are allowed to open the box!  ;) ).

You'll love it. My advice, look out for a good book on basics of photography to get started. Don't be afraid to experiment en share your results with us.

If you want to do modelshoots, start practicing on your relatives because it's not easy, from what I've heared. A nice external flash would be handy to, but I guess you'll have some time to learn about that before next summer.  ;)

Well I have got my library card around. When I do get to open it up I will be sure to thoroughly read through about the main use of it, then the extended features and abilities in such a photography book.

My sister does do some professional modelling every now and then (she is getting put on a magazine cover soon, or so she tells me). I have one model photographer and another more casual photographer down the road from me, so if I get stuck or need to know something, then I certainly have a lot of places to ask (including here).

If I do get to do some model photography in the summer, I am not sure what the set up will be... Might be going to a professional type place for it, or it might be a bit more basic. If it is the first then I am sure they can offer me some advice (and hopefully loan me some equipment)

Not sure if the photographs will be allowed on SimV. My sister and her boyfriend are very much in on the other scenes
