Brilliant afternoon, B-roads & Aerodromes.

Postby TSC. » Sun Sep 28, 2008 2:02 pm

Well I headed back home today after spending a few days up at my parents place, took a slight detour so that I could stop in at Compton Abbas Aerodrome & Dunkeswell Aerodrome on the way home - I love this kind of thing, scenic B-roads & no time restrictions.

Took some photo's at Compton Abbas as I'd never been there before, didn't take any at Dunkeswell as the light was fading fast when I got there. Anyhoo....

Taken on the way to Compton Abbas, I love these old B-roads, a much more interesting way to travel than the motorway:

Just as I arrived at Compton Abbas, this Tigermoth was just about to depart:

A quick shot down the runway & the outside facilities, an excellent set up here & well worth a visit:

Just a couple taxiing past:

Took this one mainly because I like the old Defender :):

Hope you like,

Looks like a nice little airfield. Funny thing. I was thinking of going to Compton Abbas yesterday but decided it was too far. Ended up at Old Sarum instead.

I thought that about Old Sarum, but wouldn't have been there very early, next time I'm in the area & planning a visit I'll double check who's going where before I finalise my plans.

I notice a lack of younger folks say between 18 and 30 years old in a lot of airport photos where folks are just enjoying the airfield.

There certainly does seem to be a lack of younger people at GA fields, perhaps GA is perceived to be a bit boring - the realm of slower moving observer.

Did you catch one of the RAF's twin stars that was in OS recently.....seems to do quite a few hops between there and Boscombe.....

I'll try to get to OS on a nice weekend in the next few weeks.....it's not too far for me....how's the viewing there.... :D

No. Didn't know the RAF had any Twin Stars.

Believe it or not it was my first visit to Old Sarum. It appears to be quite relaxed with a nice viewing area in front of the clubhouse/restaurant. I got my best pics from the car park. The sun is a bit of a problem especially in the morning.

Someone over at Fightercontrol took This one a couple of days ago....:)

It sounds like a safe bet to give a go one weekend....From what I saw back in May it's a pretty busy place :)
