Canon announces 50D

Postby flyboy 28 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 8:31 am

I don't think any of us shoot with the double-digit Canon models, but this thing sure looks yummy.

Here's some key points.
- 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor
- DIGIC 4
- 1.6x crop
- Dust Reduction
- Auto Brightness Processing
- 95% viewfinder .97 magnification
- 9 point af (All Cross Type)
- 35 meter area equipped with high-precision sensors
- AF Fine Tuning
- ISO 100-12800
- 6.3 fps (high speed) 3fps (low speed)
- Buffer: 16 RAW - 60 JPG - 10 RAW+JPG
- 920,000 points VGA 3.0-inch LCD monitor
- 100,000 cycle shutter
- Magnesium alloy body

It is expected to sell for a retail price of $1399.99 for body only and $1599.00 with the EF 28-135mm kit lens. From the press release, they claim that the new DIGIC 4 sensor will produce less noise at the higher resolution and high ISOs.

Hmm... I'll be awaiting the reviews on this one... If it's any bit as good as they are saying, this might become my new cam in some time... Depending on the price of the body will be after some months and if it's a vast improvement over my 400D and if the misses still goes on doing photography on herself...

yay....that means 40Ds will be cheaper when it comes out and I can upgrade to one of those :P

Why release a new camera in that line when the 40D is barely a year old....?

The 450D came to close to the 40D, so they made an upgrade. I don't expect it to be a whole different camera. Things go fast these days in photography!

Plus, Nikon did put out the new D300 and a new D90 soon...

Right, don't get excited about those figures! I'd be more than thrilled if the 50D performed at Iso 3200 like the 400D does on 800. That would really be a huge step forward. Those boosted modes don't offer to much quality anyway, but still, we'd better await the first reviews of production models...

To be continued...  :)

Rumors go around that the new model could be anounced during Photokina in september or another event in march 2009 ( can't remember the name)... a bit of cash to spare?  ;)  ;D
