So recently I've been looking over my photos and have seen a few I think could be put on A-net. I was wondering if some of you who have tried could critique these for me or suggest one I should submit?  Any help would be excellent  ;D







These aren't however the exact image I'd post of course. Id use the original and get rid of any dust, recolor, crop, etc... I'm just wondering which, if any could be a possibility for Airliners.net.

I've always been interested to see if I could make it onto that site and these 3 images seem to be the best.

My guess would be the first shot, but even that might be iffy...Im no expert, but it looks a little soft on the edges for Anet's ridiculously high standards, could be the compression though.

In my opinion all three shots are terrific.  Submit all three to the site, worst thing they can do is reject it  ;)

They all look rather soft, perhaps a little grainy, and the last two are also dark. Could you send the full size ones to me in a PM and I'll give them a go at editing....?

I have no issues re editing them myself, I was looking for suggestions for what to to with them. But perhaps you know some tricks I don't...  I'll see what I can do and send them over to you Mic for you to double check.  ;)

I also found one of the Heritage flight I took those from, seems to be of good quality and may try that one aswell.

Looking at the originals the P-40 and the F-15 look the sharpest to me, the F-4 lost a lot of quality through my lens unfortunately.

What are you shooting with, and what aperture/ISO?

To be brutally honest.
None of them as is would make it to Anet, and only the first would stand a chance if you can edit it properly. The angles oft he last two are generally not what Anet look for but you never know. And both are far to dark.

having played in PS, I would say #1 is salvageable......it has quite a bit of grain in the sky which could be a problem, and remember to clone out the big dustspot under the starboard wing

Yea, meant to get rid of that dust spot long time ago just forgot  ;)

I kinda figure they will be rejected but no harm in trying  8-)

I'm using a Canon Rebel XTi with a Tamron 75-300mm zoom lens. Neither are super high quality (hence all the noise and soft images) But at the right focal lengths it does rather well.

I think that they all look too soft to me, anything that looks in the least bit soft at 800px wide is probably beyond help. The camera and lens should be fine for the purpose, you just want to be very selective with the sharpest and best exposed shots that you have

Dont judge your photos by anet standards. The place isn't the be all of the photo world. And even some of their long term photographers have been getting upset at the "standards"

Very true. I understand that if they don't get accepted to Anet it doesn't mean their bad photos, just that some picky person out there doesn't like them  ;)  I'm just doing this because it would be rather cool if they were accepted  8-)

Thanks for the advice!  I have been trying to pick the sharpest, examining  them as close as possible.

I'll be submitting shortly after I edit a few little things (Size, file size, you know "little" things  ;) ) and I'll post what happens as I know!

Ok so this is new for me... Trying to submit the photos is even a challenge! They want Registration Number, Construction Number and the Code.  Some of you who have done this before willing to let me in on the secret of how I find all this info?  So far for one picture I have for the F-15 is EG and 79-012. where would I find the Construction number and I know the 012 is only the last 3 digits of the serial number so where to I find the rest of it  :-?

Perhaps I should drop this whole thing while I'm still ahead  ;)
