Oshkosh '08: part 5

Postby beaky » Sun Aug 03, 2008 11:55 am

Slept like a dead man, and awoke at dawn- no alarm needed. ;D
Looks like it's gonna be a good day...

Image

Nearest display area contains a massive collection of Yaks and Nanchings... this is a very cool paint.
Image

A Twin Beech looking gorgeous in the first light of dawn.

Image

Great to see a HU-16 here... wish I'd seen Splash arriving, though.
Image

Gooneys at dawn... lovely. This canadian one in the foreground is new to me.

Image

Another look at the DC-3 shown earlier... what a perfect early-vintage paint!
Image

I like Buckeyes...

Image

One of my Top Five pics from this year... these Trojans were obviously posing for me. ;D

Image

A Trojan I've never seen before...awesome China Lake paint.
Image

Another Beech 18, looking great in early USN colors.
Image

The great Curtiss fighters were fairly well-represented this year...

And of course Mustangs. can't swing a dead cat at Airventure without hitting a beautiful P-51.

Heading towards show center, I had to yield for this terrific Lionheart... yes, it's a sort of replica of a Beech Staggerwing. Must be nice to take your own Lionheart out for a little joyride at dawn...or maybe he's going home.

Enjoying the series so far. That Lionheart looks interesting. First time I've seen it.

IIRC the design's been around for 5 or 10 years now. Doesn't have the "squat" appearance of the original D-17, and IMO suffers for it. :)
