MAAM WWII'08: part2-trainers

A fine collection of gleaming;y restored WWII-era military trainers...

The sole Percival. There was supposed to be a Hurri and Spit this year, but they had mechanical difficulties. But this was nice- I rarely see these around here.

These trainers used 13/31 for their flybys, which helped... I was able to get much closer. This camera has a weak lens, but my 6X zoom Kodak rarely got much better results, anyway, and was stuck at 4MP. This was shot at 8, then cropped quite a bit.
should do better in favorable light, dry aur... and with a better understanding of the focus presets... LOL.

I lingered outside the fence,by the departure end of 31 after the show and got some much better in-flight shots, like this one.
Next year I might do all my shooting from outside the fence; no screaming kids or cell phone ringtones to spoil the video. :D

Surprisingly good results for your little camera.

There was supposed to be a Hurri and Spit this year, but they had mechanical difficulties.

Looks nice. It's a Percival Provost or "Piston Provost", forerunner of the Jet Provost.

I thought I was being ignorant, as I thought it looked a lot like a Provost  ;D

They have a lovely Piston Provost at Shuttleworth (as Doug already knows) and a very sad looking one at Sleap in bits.....I think I've posted shots before.

This one looks great, very shiny  8-)

Doug.....what are the similarities between the Piston and Jet Provost that justify the names being consistent? One of the Museum guides at Cosford said that there was very little similarity excluding the seats and the name  :D

Just spotted this. I'm no great authority on Percival aircraft but I always understood that the Jet Provost was basically a Piston Provost with a jet engine & retractable tricycle undercarriage. There are obviously a few more differences than that but they do look very similar, especially in the old silver & yellow RAF trainer markings. There is a Jet Provost T.1 in these markings at North Weald which I believe is still airworthy. The T.1 has stalky main undercarriage legs which are a direct descendant of the piston-engined version. http://www.jetprovostheaven.com/jpt1/img1gaobu.html
