GAAM Barnstormer Day '08- part 10: Cessna 195

Postby beaky » Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:05 am

An outstanding classic! This  1949 "Businessliner" was the corporate hack of the Big Chief Drilling Company in Oklahoma originally... the 195 was the Lear Jet of the time (although not... quite as fast, LOL).

After a take-off accident in 1980, it was dormant for about 5 years, until the museum bought it. Just before this pic was taken, the announcer pointed out a gentleman who was walking past the hangar... turns out he was in the right seat on the day it got bent up!  :D

I was experimenting a little too much with settings and the polarizing filter during the flybys, but this one came out OK.

Great shots. I've always loved the Cessna 195.

the 195 was the Lear Jet of the time (although not... quite as fast, LOL).

But so much more beautifull than a lear... ;D

Them some nice shots. 8-)

Don't know if this is true or not but reading this article, it says there re-introducing the Cessna 195 back into production with modernised features. I highly doubt it. Thoughts? :-?

I dont expect anything GA with a radial from the states to be designed anymore...
I wonder how a replica C195 would fly with a 400hp Vedeenyev up front though

Well, not in production, but there are wonderful radials being made for the experimental market nowadays:

Some really good photos on that site... seems a lot of people love those old style cowlings (with the bumps on the outside)

Numbers look very good... Nice to see some WW1 stuff pushed to their design speeds whitout having to hunt down old rotaries. Those engines give almost the same output as the top-of-the-line engines of that era
