Prook that you don't need to look ahead to fly this type of plane...

3 consecutive shots during take-off...

And proof the pilot does look ahead from time to time... landing...

Image

He looked straith at me during taxiing again ( see my Ebul-thread)

so:

a) I'm verry pretty to look at

b) He was impressed with my 70-300 mm

c) They're not used to see spotters at Ebul

;D

On aonther note, I heared out local Pitt's tailwheel broke off during a landing some weeks ago. Pilot OK and plane flying again. Must have been quite some fireworks!

Cheers,

I don't get that as he can't possibly see anything over that long nose. ::) :)

In the last one, is the main gear on the ground?

Doesn't quite look like it. Maybe an almost-three-pointer? :P

Nice snaps Kris.

I think the preferred method with this type is to look forward, but only to get a good peripheral view on wither side; for sure you can't see diddly over the nose. The Pitts and the AS are also both short-coupled, light, sensitive to input, and have bouncy landing gear... even the most accomplished aerobats are a little scared when it's time to land one of those.

I don't think that's true, at least I hope not. The aerobatic pilots I know appear to enjoy the landing as much as anything else. They practice & practice until they can land on the spot every time. It's beautiful to watch.

This pilot likes to come it at a sharp diving angle, decending until he's almost down, then suddenly keeps the plane level for quite some distance, starts bleeding airspeed and softly touches the runway. It's really neat to watch.

Not saying it can't be mastered, but what I hear is that while it is easy to get the feel of it in flight- it practically anticipates what you want to do- the utmost attention and respect is required when landing it.
