Thought I'd missed a classic....

Postby igs942 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 1:07 pm

....but then again, you could say this is a classic.

Living just down the road from Kidlington I hear GA noises all day so while I was out enjoying the sunshine yesterday and I heard a 'normal sounding' prop approaching I didn't even bother looking up. Imagine my horror when my fiancee shouts 'look at that!' and I turn round to see the elliptical wing! Time spent changing the lens allowed it to pass overhead before I was ready to zoom in and shoot.  I went home cursing under my breath but today, now that I have trasferred the file, I can see that it's not a Spit, but a Twister, G-TWST to be precise. I have learnt my lesson and will always look up when I hear something sounding mechanical.

I'm sure you would have recognised a real Spitfire if you heard it. ;)

The Twister is due to display at Abingdon this Sunday if you want a closer look. Here's a shot I took of it at Old Warden a couple of weeks ago,

It was a tidy looking routine. Although it did seem like an oversize electric model aeroplane.

Indeed I would have Doug. I kept saying to my other half that it definitely had no parts with Rolls Royce stamps on. Then, when trying to explain the sound it would have made had it been a Spit, the words 'more throaty' seemed to kinda make her understand. I take my hat off to her though as she said she thought it was a Spit.

Her next ID lesson...the Vulcan

She did very well. It might no longer be the case but there used to be two military aircraft that most people in this country could identify on sight, even if they weren't the slightest bit interested in aviation. One was the Spitfire & the other was the Vulcan. I don't think anyone could mistake that. ;)

The unmistakably roar of the mighty RR's aren't heared often in the skies. But nice catch of your lady, to spot the elliptical wings...
