What a priceless gift from our grandfathers

Postby freedomhays » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:13 am

I find it amazing that this photo, taken so many years ago, actually still exists!

And now someone has put it online for all of us to see.
This INCREDIBLE picture was taken in 1918.

If you can remember back to a certain photo shoot at Gut Ozzy, I know who had the Maggie Thatcher mask on 8-)

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Looking again at the picture I was having my doubt that it was a genuine photo. The perspective looked wrong for a start, however after a short trip into the WWW, it turns out to be very real. The picture was taken by an Englishman, Arthur S Mole who also came up with the idea. Turns out he did quite a lot of this sort of thing.

More examples....The Liberty Bell has 25000 men in it :o

Also here is a link to a short description of the event by one of the 18000 involved

first hand

An amazing photo, certainly when you think about the times it was taken in and what these people stood for... They surely gave us a big gift.

Thats only about 50 miles from where I live currently.  Given the lack of entertainment options in Iowa, I can believe things like this would be done.  ;D

Excellent.  8-)
It doesn't look like so many, until you consider that to compensate for perspective, the torch is much, much wider than the base... lots of guys lined up back there.
