I find it amazing that this photo, taken so many years ago, actually still exists!

And now someone has put it online for all of us to see.
This INCREDIBLE picture was taken in 1918.

wow awsome! i would'nt have thought 18,000 men.... i was thinking on the lines of maybe 700/1000 when i first saw the picture.

Looking again at the picture I was having my doubt that it was a genuine photo. The perspective looked wrong for a start, however after a short trip into the WWW, it turns out to be very real. The picture was taken by an Englishman, Arthur S Mole who also came up with the idea. Turns out he did quite a lot of this sort of thing.

It doesn't look like so many, until you consider that to compensate for perspective, the torch is much, much wider than the base... lots of guys lined up back there.
