Layne goes flying - Part 1

Postby Layne. » Mon Apr 21, 2008 4:03 am

Today i went on an excursion to Tyabb Airport, TO FLY A PLANE!!!!! First we went to the Old Aeroplane country museum (Forgot to get pictures :() which is at the airport who restore vintage warbirds they had a P-40F Warhawk they are restoring (originally Cattle Crusher or something from 44th Sq), multiple T-6 Harvards, T-28 Trojan from U.S Navy, Dehavilland Vampire (getting restored), Tiger Moth and some more which are all original because they try t keep the originality which is their main purpose and all are flyable once restored!!!

I got to fly the either Cessna 152 or gazelle ultralight aircraft, i went into the Cessna 152 (because i love the plane). I got controls once we where 1,000 feet in the air. I did some turns got to use the rudder a bit (i was in pilots seat :D) and elevator stuff. Half way trhough the flight the instructor asked if i wanted to do a Wing Over but i chickened out :( Which i wish i hadn't done :'( It was really good and i got to see a submarine ate the docks  ;D Didn't get to actually take off and land but i did the approach and i did the rudder input for landing and takeoff :D

I only got pictures of my mates flying and the aircraft around + one my mate took of me landing, didn't get an in the cockpit (too busy flying :D) any way have a look :D :P

the big hanger in the background is the museum

Shots of my mate doing flight control inspection (same cessna i went in) and some taxing shots (non involve me)

Does the name Fullem (Or Fullum or something) mean anything to you? I swear the dude doing the walkaround looks like my friends bro.

Any progress on the (worlds only) Merlin powered P-40 since my shots? T-28* Trojan. :P Also, is the Vampire getting restored so it flies,,, or just for a mueseam, I forgot?

Also, I know they maintain some of the aircraft at tyabb. :)An R-22 and 172 TBL are the only ones that I know of thou.

NICE PICS!!!

Yeah vamp is restoring to fly, last week they installed the engine :D Original too. It's the 1 seat version. P-40 going great looks like a full aircraft from outside :D they need to paint more markings and finish of the rest of the engine (got a bad radiator so need to get another new one.)
