Question for UK photographers?

I am looking for a nice place to take shots of military aircraft actually flying and if possible close up on the ground with out getting arrested! RAF and would love to take some shots of USAF planes. I

RAF Brize Norton is about an hours drive from London (on a good day) as are RAF/USAF Lakenheath/Mildenhall.

Both have LOTS of activity.

If you're interested I can give you directions..  :)

Bare in mind that you might not get much flying at the weekend, especially at fighter stations like Lakenheath

Brize Norton is good fun, has some excellent viewing places and is quite easy to get to from London, but it depends on what you want to see....at Brize It'll be VC10s, Tristars, DC10s and C17s.....i.e. transport aircraft, with similar aircraft operating from Mildenhall (USAF equivalents)

Any lucky spotters last night would have seen a Monarch A330 doing circuits from about 5 til 7. Looked very nice. I'm sure they were just teasing us with the A330!

Can't vouch for Brize, but LN is usually very stop-start, and Mildenhall can be hit and miss. Some days it's busy, some days it's dead, or active with lengthy periods of nothing.

To be honest, I'd much rather see VC10s circuit bashing than monarch A330s.....

Try the Mach Loop in west Wales. Lots of low flying military jets, but you gotta like hill walking to get there.

lol bit far for his requirements the loop. Back there this wednesday though with steve and mic. 5th time there lets hope its the chance for typhoons and harriers.

All I have to do is look at my bedroom window and see them enroute to Holbeach. Had 4 Tiffies come over the other day. 3 were in formation, the other guy I think was pissed !

quite frankly if nothing else the info lets the guy know theres somewhere else to go if hes not restrained by time and distance.

To be fair, you don't see many A330s (or other contemporary airliners) doing circuits.
