I was offered a ride, just could NOT fit (not even close)  :-[

Seems odd; you're bigger than I am, but... can you fit in a 150?
If you can fit in a 150, you've probably noticed that it seems impossible until you get in there and stretch your legs out, then aside from the narrowness, it's not so bad.



The guy who got me thinking seriously about 140s, who owns one with a good IFR panel and flies it in (California) IMC regularly, is lanky but tall... taller than you, I think. A lot older than us, too... but he's been climbing in and out of that thing for years and doesn't seem to mind it.

Lose ten pounds and get some axle grease, and we'll get you in a 140! ;D

:D   I could stand to lose 10, but the problem is my 38" inseam. In a 150, my knees tie up the yoke.. I didn't get past one leg, trying to climb into the 140..  

I might be able to sit sideways on a hip, as a passneger (hope we aren't going far..lol )

If I ever get an "affordable" trainer... I think a Tomahawk or Skipper is in my cards. Plenty of leg, head and shoulder room in those things.. Great visibility too.

Polished aluminum blows chrome away in my opinion, and the whole censor for richards common name cracked me up  ;D

Ah, yes. I'm a 32... I can see the problem. I've heard of 140 owners turning the yokes upside-down so they can maneuver without fouling it on their knees... I'm trying to remember now how Ken (the gangly guy from San Diego) has his set up.   :-/

Don't know the Skipper, but I flew a Tomahawk on my very first intro lesson and really liked it. I've contemplated buying one, nore than once.
Just bring something heavy to toss onto the glareshield if you ever get into a flat spin... ;) :D
funny thing about the semi-mythological spin characterisitcs of the Tomahawk: I believe it's helped keep prices down on those. They seem to be a good buy, if you find one that hasn't been used too much as a trainer... :D

It's not mythology (well it kinda is)... For the experienced pilot, it's a non-issue. The situation where you'd spin in a T-hawk, is about as likely to sneak up on you, as a power-on stall would, in a Skyhawk. You don't have to be ever vigilant. Another price factor is the wings. I think it's something like 7000 hours and then they're done.. and so is the airframe. This all means that you can pick up a VERY nice one in the 25K range. Their cockpits and panels are huge. Our club has an IFR T-hawk with a Garmin 430 in it  8-)

Wait until some of these Liberty XLs get some hours on them. Decent room and payload; a T-hawk/140 appetite (6gph) while cruising at 130kias !

Threads like this make me miss flying light aeroplanes, and reinforce the fact that I really ought to get SE piston current again and send the CAA some cash for a PPL!

...and I need to do a tailwheel conversion.
