Grumpy takes the bus

Postby Hagar » Sun Feb 03, 2008 5:23 pm

I had a busy few days last week. While the rest of the country was suffering from all sorts of horrific weather last Friday we were basking in brilliant sunshine. Too nice to stay indoors so I decided to take advantage of my free bus pass & have a leisurely ride into Littlehampton for fish 'n' chips. Unlike many seaside resorts it's still open for business even in the middle of winter. After a very nice lunch (or dins as Foz would call it) I met up with an old mate & we had a stroll round taking some photos. I've always liked Littlehampton. It used to be a bit of a dump & had a bad reputation but the new development along the waterfront has changed it completely & is an example of what can be done with a little careful planning. Anyway, here's the photos.

Don't ask me what a Dutch bike shop is doing on the south coast of England. I don't think I've ever seen anyone riding one around here.

This is part of the new development. Highly desirable residences. I imagine some of those flats are worth a fair bit.

Plenty of watering holes around here. This is the Steam Packet. There's another pub named the Arun View right across the road but my shot didn't come out too well. Image

Those clouds looked a tad threatening so we went for a nice cuppa & a piece of cake.      Image

When we emerged from the cafe the old currant bun had popped out again. ;)

This shot is looking back along the way we came towards the harbour entrance at centre right. A lady had just thrown out some food for the birds & the air was full of them. Just like a scene from the Hitchcock classic. Unfortunately my camera was on the wrong settings & I missed it. ::)

Ah well, it's getting dark so time to head for home.

A nice day out... :)

I think the Dutch bike shop must've been carried off by the sea and came ashore on the tide. ;)

Just looking at the Steam Packet is making me very thirsty... looks like a good place to toss back a few. Definitely on the "when I visit England" list. ;)

Doug Batavus are a Dutch bike manufacturer in the same way Raleigh is British. That might be why it is a Dutch bike shop ;)
Lovely photos BTW.

Wonderful shots Doug... :)

What happened to all the people the area looks deserted?

Do they have such a thing as "water taxis" to take people from one village/town on the water to another?

Thanks for posting them.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

No offence taken buddy... I'd rather stand corrected than to go on making the same mistake over and over again.

Doug probably does what I do:
Wait until the day before one's annual bath to do these shoots... clears the area of unphotogenic tourists pretty handily. ;D

Too late for that. My birthday was a couple of weeks ago. LOL :D

It does look rather deserted now you come to mention it. There were plenty of people about so I don't know where they all went. Perhaps they're camera-shy. As for the water buses, I've never seen any on our local rivers. You would have to go to somewhere like London for that sort of thing.
