Yeah... I gotta keep the generation in mind. Esky is kinda like a distant past, friend-wise.. though my brother still lives there, and I visit often.. I just don't stay in touch with old friends... because they've all moved away. That's the way it goes. People born in Esky can't wait to move away.. and after a few years.. they'd kill to move back.. but can't until they retire. It's not a youthful economy.. which in a way, is good.
You're just a tad old to be in the generation that would be children of friends of mine.. and obviously too young to have known the same people (I'm almost 49)..
