Lovely day today so I nipped down to one of my favourite places on the planet. Here's a few snaps I took during the day. Note they're all taildraggers. Proper aeroplanes.

This is not what it appears to be. Anyone know what it is without looking it up?

What was that Silvaire pilot up to?  :o

The first has me stumped. Almost looks like some Brits hobbled together pieces of a champ, a Moth, a Cub, and a Taylorcraft... but in a Russian workshop.


I'm going to look it up, but I won't say anything.

Saw a photo of a smiliar aircraft to this when i was last down the local flying school (one of the pilots was looking at a similar aircraft).

It is indeed a Christavia MK 1 as is the one in Ken's photo (I think). http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/kitspages/christavia.php

This one was built from scratch under the supervision of vintage restorer Ron Souch* who is flying it in my shot. This was its second outing since being completed. The owner told me that it's the sole example of its type in Europe.

*Ron told me the Miles Whitney Straight he's currently restoring should fly soon. Like all Miles aircraft this is now extremely rare. Watch this space for photos.

What was that Silvaire pilot up to?

A low fly-by 'up the hill & round the corner'. Not quite as close or as low as it looks in my shot. The active runway yesterday was 26 which has an offset approach to avoid the service station built right on the threshold. There's just something about it's line which makes it very unique and since it was a long time ago for me, I had to go back and make sure it was the one I had in mind. Mine (well not really [glow=yellow,2,300]mine[/glow])I believe, was built here on the Island in Campbell River.

Well spotted Ken. I must confess it fooled me & I didn't take much notice of it until I got chatting to the owner over a cuppa in the clubhouse at the end of the day. They had a spot of bother with it (mag drop) & had to go home by road. Ron's comment was that when you fly vintage aircraft always bring a car as backup.

Well Doug, I just have to say that this must be the most wonderful GA airfield on our planet! Just look at the amazing variation in birds, one more splendid than the other!

The Yak-shot is perfect. I always wondered how people get those curly props.
