No, no, no! Megapixels are the last thing that you should be thinking about! They only start to really make a difference if you start wanting to print pictures out the size of your front door.

I was going to go for the Olympus E-410 myself but then I decided to go for the Canon EOS 400D (should arrive on Monday!  :D).

No, no, no! Megapixels are the last thing that you should be thinking about! They only start to really make a difference if you start wanting to print pictures out the size of your front door.

I agree, but you should read the whole sentence... "and abilities your budget can buy". Basically, if you're on a low budget, than a Pentax K100D Super and a Nikon d40 will do just fine. But if you have a bit more to spend, do it to get an even better camera.

Firstly, everyone is limited by their own budget, set what you can afford as your limit,........
Second, get as many feature/resolution as your budget allows,.........
Finally, go for the personal feel. No one else matters in this area !

With regard to this, .......
It can become important if you just want to capture "just the shot" and not worry about image quality for that certain subject.
