Winter Wonder Land...

Storms over at last...but the aftermath will be here for some time to come.  Ended up with a total snow accumulation of about 12 inches just over night and very early this morning :o  By it being a Sunday it left things quite a mess.  Road crews in this county are about useless on a Sunday, they only clear main roads and they didn't even do a half-arsed job of that >:(  Took about one swipe down the town streets in the middle of the storm and never returned.  Country roads...ha...county didn't even touch them at all.  Only plows down those roads has been us farmers trying to at least get to and from town.  Drifting has completely taken them over again >:(

Started my morning with this...somewhere strait ahead is a walk and behind that tree is a road...they seem to not exist :-/

An hour of shoveling out the walk and then across the street to find my truck again I was ready to go.  Left the house about 2 PM to head off to a friends place to take care of the animals.  Not such a good idea but it had to be done.  Got to the top of his hill and turned around...slid forward into a huge drift and then spent about 1.5 hours digging myself back out >:(  Finally free and took another swipe down the drive with the tractor...looking down the lane after tending to the animals.  That is a road at the end...its the county line.  Its only one lane but at least you can see the pavement. Kosciusko to the north actually takes care of their country roads.  Surprisingly clear as usual.  Cant say much for the lane as it was beginning to drift shut again :-[Image
And then at last the return trip home, just turned off the clear county line road back into my own county...somewhere ahead is a road...but who knows where it actually is >:(  We pay our taxes and this is what we get for it...nothing as usual.  They never even so much as took one swipe down it since the snow began.  There was places where drifts were over 5 foot and all you could do was hit them hard and hope you made it through >:(  Even good spots you were driving on top of 6 inches that had packed down tight. :-[Image

This is going to be an odd year.  Its extremely rare to get snow falls over 2 inches before mid January.  We've had 3 storms so far...this one being the largest.  If it keeps up I wouldn't be surprised if we get a couple good blizzards like back in 98 where over 5 foot was dumped on us in a matter of 2 days.  Outlook isn't so good...and to top this one off theres another 1-4 inches expected tonight :-/

What about on the Big Island?  I think it's on the Mauna Kea volcano that they snow ski at certain times of the year.

Great shots!!!  You can keep out there!! ;)

Yup, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa get snow during the winter (not much) but they dont have a lift, gotta take a truck to the summit if you want to ski down it.
