Udvar-Hazy teaser: spotting

Postby beaky » Wed Dec 05, 2007 10:04 pm

Turns out the new wing of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum is not a bad place for spotting at Dulles... braved the chill and blowing snow today to shoot outside a little. Just random semi-experimental stuff; I kind of like the effect I got using the flash to catch the snowflakes later when it started getting dark.
The tower, BTW, was built for the museum- you can go up there and see quite a bit of the airport. Pretty lousy viewing today: about 500 overcast with blowing snow and 1 mile vis.
But there's also a mini ATC museum in the tower, where they have a TRACON work station mockup, complete with audio and scope video recording loop of real traffic at KEWR, of all places... ;D

BRRRRR!!  I enjoyed the shots, something different from all the sunny clear day shots.  The last one as everyone has said does look like a meteor shower, I love it, gives the picture a lot of life.

That's a cool tower!

I like the experiment with the snow, very creative.

Glad it was snow, because at a first glance I couldn't believe the amount of noise in your shots!  ;D
