Stroll along the beach

Postby Hagar » Thu Oct 18, 2007 1:32 pm

I thought it was about time I posted some photos so here goes. After a nice lunch at the airport yesterday I decided to take advantage of the lovely weather & go for a stroll along Shoreham Beach. When I got there the sun hid behind a ginormous cloud. Typical. ;)
Image

Eventually the cloud disappeared leaving almost perfect conditions with that wonderful clear air we get at this time of year. This is Widewater Lagoon just south of the airport looking nor'east towards Shoreham. St. Mary's church can be seen at far right with the South Downs in the background.
Image

Looking southeast towards Brighton across the pebble beach itself. You can clearly see the city at far left & along the cliffs as far as Beachy Head on the right. This is about 30 miles from where I'm standing & would take over an hour to drive there with good luck & a following wind. The famous White Cliffs of Dover are much farther to the east.
Image

About a mile further on towards Shoreham. Looking north you can see the the footbridge that links Shoreham town with Shoreham Beach across the River Adur. St. Mary's church is now on the left
Image

Looking upriver across the Norfolk Bridge towards Lancing College chapel with the new Ropetackle development on the right. This used to be a run down area of the waterfront. It is now highly desirable luxury flats. The airport is just beyond the bridge.
Image

This was taken from the footbridge looking in the opposite direction into the harbour proper. Paul McCartney has an apartment somewhere along there.
Image

Hope you liked my little tour. I might do more like it now the air display season has finished.

Great shots Doug, I do love your little tours of Shoreham, looks really nice! Was it you that posted the pics of the houseboats a while back? I remember one was an old navy vessel & one was an old Gosport ferry, now owned by an artist. Would be great to see those again if you were around that way sometime.

Thanks for sharing your walkabout.

Cheers,

TSC.

Beautiful Photo's, as usual, Doug... :)...!
Many thanks...;)..!

One of the many things I like about dear old England is, that no matter where you live, you are rarely more that 50 Miles from the nearest Sea... :-*...!

F.... 8-)...!

Nearest Sea-side: Porthcawl. South Wales... :)...!

...how times have changed...

I remember in the 1950's and 1960's, I used to take my family in my Motor-cycle Combination to many Sea-side places in my area, and in many places there were only a handful of people on the sands and the Promenade...plenty of room!

...even during the ride there and back, we only met a handful of cars, (Ford Prefects and Anglia's, Austin 7's), etc, on the journey!
A nice, gentle cruise.

Nowadays, the traffic is horrendous, and the Sea-sides are heaving with Tourists....having found all my previous secret, sandy places.... :'(...!

I am frightened, like the rest of my Motorcyclist Mates, to park my Bike at the Sea-side now, in case it gets "pinched", kicked, or knocked over/flattened by an errant Motorist/Van driver... :'(...!

Not much fun on the roads...and Sea-sides, nowadays... :o...!

What a shame...!

F.... 8-)...!

The same problem with Sea-side Camping Sites....no more 50 pence per night in a Tent, like in the "olden days"... :'(...!!
