Doomsday Plane

Postby Aerophile » Tue Oct 09, 2007 9:02 pm

Spotted this E-4B this morning.  I know this is not a quality photo by any measure, but I thought it was interesting enough to take a couple of snapshots of.  As you can probably tell, it was a gloomy overcast morning.  Here we go...

That was one of the conspiracy planes flying over Washington D.C. on September 11th!  Quick, grab your tin-foil hat and hide in your closet and and watch out for men in black suits and dark glasses....:-X

;D

;D Thanks!  That was an interesting article, though I only read about half of it and skimmed through the rest.  Wikipedia has a pretty interesting write up on the airplane as well.

god, I hate 9/11 conspiracy's  or any other conspiracy.  Taking photos that show certain planes then use them as absolute proof something happened?  I don't even know what the conspiracy is with this guy!? a US Military government plane above the white house on 9/11? no way!  Really!? [/sarcasm]  And being the most advanced military electronic plane well, makes sense it was there.  If the photos weren't photoshoped.  Sorry no more politics.   ::)

Nice catch and I like the photos  ;) ;D

I read the title and thought "E-4B?"

Oh, the memories - when I was four years old, my dad called me and my mum on his mobile phone, because as he was driving past the airport, he spotted what seemed to be a VC-25 (OK, he called it Air Force One) so my mum drove past, and there was an E-4B, I quickly pointed out the fact that it wasn't AF1, but it was still rare (I had no idea what the E-4B was at the time).

Very nice (and rare!) catch there, it is a shame they are retiring the fleet in a few years. Such a beautiful and graceful bird. Note in these photos, the extended APU exhaust found on the E-4B, and the wire antenna running down from the tail. Also of interest, is the dirt on its dome. How the heck did it get up there? "Newbish" refueling boomer who thought that was the receptacle?

Great shots. There are two of them here at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton.
Where were you when you took these shots?

I was at my home base airport in Waco, Texas.  There is a company on the field there that does military contracts.  Not sure why this particular plane was there though.

Which company does contracts there? I believe Northrop or Raytheon have made the communication systems for the E-4B.

Ok, I gotta ask... What's with the black ribbons?   Am I missing something?
