Planes of Fame-part 6

These hangars are just busting with wonderful stuff.  It would take a lifetime to get to the bottom of it all.

;D

Very straightforward placarding on this old Jeep...

A bad picture of a splendid Culver.

A replica of Japan's replica of the Komet- the Mitsubishi Sutsui.

A very original and very flyable Kaydet...

And- holy cow!!  :o I'd forgotten this was here... this is the earliest American predecessor to the B-2: the Northrop N9MB "Flying Wing" prototype. A larger jet version was developed, but this was the proof-of-concept vehicle.
This was the only one of the four prototypes built that has the 300-hp Franklins... and it flies.
Looks like it's undergoing an overhaul right now...

Another precious gem: A YP-59, America's first (and not very well-received) jet fighter. It's being restored to flying condition...!!!

Next: part 7 (last)

IIRC I think it may have suffered an inflight problem - a fire perhaps. It's early in the morning though so I may be wrong...

Here we are:

In April 2006 the N-9M-B suffered an in-flight engine fire. The aircraft was landed safely with limited damage but as of June 2007 there is no estimate as to when the wing will fly again.
