He is a 29th generation captive born Chocolate raccoon. All of his fur is a various shade of brown. From dark brown to almost white tan. He is very cool. We bottle fed him and he is a member of the family. He sleeps in bed with us at night just like a dog. You have to have them spayed or neutered or they become aggresive during breeding season. He is 100% litterbox trained. On the downside he can get onto an into everything.

I have a family of 5 that live up a tree at my house.
The mother comes down every night and snoops around the fence line and where the garbage cans are. The 4 babies all peek their heads over the fence.

They are cute but I stay well away from them as they are wild as I live on 128 acres of woodland.

Freedomhays-He is not declawed but I trim his claws every 2 weeks or so. Just so they are blunt and not razors.

Dave- that is a good Idea to stay away from them a momma raccoon can be a hell of a beast when she is pissed off. But they are rather cute in the wild. You should put some food at the base of the tree, dry dog food is the best for them. The cheaper the better as good dog foods have to much protien and fat in them. Take some pics!

They are illegal in allot of states. Make sure you check your local laws. Here is a copy of most state reccomomdations http://www.mnsi.net/~remocoon/regulats.htm

And this is a great site on raccoons as pets

http://www.mnsi.net/~remocoon/index2.htm

They do make wonderful companions but they are still wild animals so they are not for everyone.  I suggest you read everything you can. Be very careful of wild raccoons as they can carry raccoon roundworm (called brain worms in humans) it is harmless to a raccoon but untreatable in humans. You should only get a bottle raised raccoon that you pick up about 3 weeks old and before its eyes are open. Then you finish the bottle feeding (very expensive) and they bond to you just like they would their mothers. We take long walks through the woods together and there is no fear of him taking off, if I just hide behind a tree and he can't see me he starts screaming at the top of his lungs. He is very much like having a young child!

Aaah, this looks sweet... amazing that it can be a pet.

Beeing born in captivity probably helps to maintain a friendly character.

Looking good!  ;)
