Mt. Wilson Observatory

Postby flyboy 28 » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:57 am

Seeing Sean's shots of Palomar inspired me to get some of my shots up from California. These are from the Mt. Wilson Observatory, which overlooks northeast Los Angeles. Here, they discovered...
  • recognition that the Sun is not at the center of the Milky Way galaxy
  • proof that countless galaxies exist in addition to the Milky Way
  • the existence of the magnetic field of the sun and its key role in solar activity
  • the recession of the galaxies indicating the Big Bang origin of the Universe
  • the existence of populations of stars of various ages in our galaxy

Camo. :)

Mmmm that lovely LA smog. :P

Some communications towers for the city.

My camera doesn't fare too well in low-light, but I tried to get some of the actual telescope.

A shot of my parents for distance comparison purposes. :P

Maybe more later. I'm kind of beat right now. I was at a show on Long Island until 3am and took the day off from school. Maybe I'll take a nap. :)

Looks like an awesome place! Look at the height above the plains!  :o

Mountain-tops are fantastic places... and the sky must be wonderful at night!
