Dunsfold 2007 part 3

Another tribute, this time to the people serving here during WWII. Dunsfold airfield was built by Canadian Army engineers in 1942 in the record time of 20 weeks. Traditionally the flying display here includes aircraft associated with the airfield in some way.

Peter Teichman arriving in Jumpin' Jacques. The P-51 was the first type to operate from here although it was the Mustang I of 400 and 414 Squadron RCAF & not the P-51D.


Unfortunately a hydraulic leak meant he was late for his display slot. He had time for a couple of passes before the arrival of the BBMF. This is the best I could do.


This needs no introduction. Alex Henshaw regularly barrel rolled the Lanc during production testing.



Which leads me onto this rare sight. The B-25 Mitchell of the Duke of Brabant Air Force. I believe it's now the only airworthy B-25 in Europe. This one has a chequered history & is painted to represent an aircraft of 320 Squadron of the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Service based at Dunsfold in August 1943.




This is not edited in any way. It's one of the reasons I came to this show. They didn't actually complete the roll but it's an incredible display for a vintage aircraft of this size.

Awesome pics Doug... If the circumstances had been a bit better I would have met you there maybe.  I've seen the B-25 do that semi roll as well... Quite low actually. If you have any shots of the crowds my parents might be on there  :D They were less than 500M from the Airfield and my dad Actually saw them all coming in and waved at each and every one of them. Too bad no Harrier display. I know of a certain farmer who would love to see some Harriers there again!

I saw it last year but was ready for it this time. I doubt that I have any shots of your parents. Shame about the Harriers. He wouldn't be the only one.

Thanks for those lovely photos Doug. Alas the Red Bull B-25 didn't make it to Kecskemet for some reason (quite a few of their other kites did). I'll sort out some pics and post 'em tomorrow
