1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Nice shot too, that plane looks like a stumpy MD-11 or DC-10  ;D

Well, to be fair, the Tristar couldn't be to much closer to a DC-10/MD-11 ;D

Don't worry Mic - the rate they're working they'll be around for a few years yet! The VC10 is now potentially going to be around til about 2015 (and they aren't throwing upgrades at it), and the Tristar's are being seriously upgraded (nice shiney new glass cockpits etc), so I can't see them going too quickly...

I guess that's inevitable considering the amount of money the RAF has (or doesnt have) to buy a replacement :)

That's part of the problem - the replacement isn't being bought, but acquired (leased effectively) using one of the fashionable "PFIs". Sadly this has taken nearly 10 years to negotiate the PFI contract with industry. The Aussies decided they wanted the same aircraft (A330 MRTT), and have already had their first delivered, because they didn't prat around, and just bought them... ::)

Different. I have to say I thought their military trade was mostly King Airs and AWACs. :)

I wouldn't know about King Airs because I imagine they'll cut in on short finals and I'm quite a way from the airport so I don't see that. Tristars have actually been the most common visitor these last few months as far I can tell though (although the E3D's still pay plenty of visits). But we've seen all sorts in here lately, F3s, Nimrods, Hawks and so on.
