airventure 07- Gooney break!!

Postby beaky » Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:51 pm

So many images... brain... melting... I need a Gooney break.

There were seven flying DC-3/C-47/R4Ds that I saw... I didn't get any pics of the camo-painted C-47, but here's the rest of them.

I don't have much info on these- never seemed to be anyone "in the know" around when I was looking at them. But who cares? They're Gooneys. ;D

No good in-flight pics, but I like this taxi shot. Love the sound these things make on the ground.

The famous CAM DC-3, in Piedmont livery:

The office... very modern, but unmistakable. ;D

Another stranger to me... I like the paint scheme. I even like the greasy residue... ;D

Seen this one before, but I can't ID it. I really like the custom-welded oil pans they have installed for parking; that's a nice touch. God knows those old radials leak quite a bit.

I still haven't looked this up- I think it may have had a belly camera installed at one time. Gooneys are a good plane to bring camping- lots of shelter. ;D

Duggy just after a nice shower... he was busy hauling skydivers aloft for the show opening all week long.

The red one is the later Douglas scheme like the one used for the Super DC-3...

The one with the oil pan thingies is the FAA DC-3 I believe.

2 more things...

I love the last one! What type of DC-3 is that anyway? It has a sharper nose compared to the rest - I like that.

I believe later DC-3's were changed to have a different nose...but I'm not THAT much of an expert.  Duggy was originaly built in '39, and was commissioned for use during WWII.
