NMNA pt 12-art, etc.

The NMNA has fantastic galleries,,, here's a peek at a few things.
Also a plethora of artifacts... very hard to photograph in their cases, but have a looky-loo at these.

Some bits and pieces of Japanese aircraft, one of which was a kamikaze that struck the USS Enterprise.

A couple of gorgeous paintings...

A flag carried by a Japanese pilot... not a "blood chit" at all but sort of an honor flag, so he could fly and fight with the blessings of his ancestors, etc.

This flag spent quite some time in the Pacific during WWII... can't remember offhand which vessel.

The scorecard for the aircraft carrier Essex:

There seems to be a lot of interesting artifacts at that museum.
Thanks for putting the pics up for us across the pond who are unable to see the place first hand.

If you search around a bit, there are plenty of online galleries with much better quality pics of much more stuff from the collection- worth a look.

I've not replied to any of these so far Sean, but I'm thoroughly enjoying them, thanks  8-)

It's unusual in that there is an optical illusion (that you can't see in the photo): the right edge of the deck is a vertical line squared to the frame, so if you walk past the painting (which is 7 feet long or thereabouts), it appears that you're looking straight down the deck. It's hard to describe, but it's a great way to keep the deck the focal point without putting it in the center of the picture.
