Everyone holds onto Canon and Nikon because they are the proven bands in the DSLR field, others, Olympus,Sony etc are newcomers so, naturally, people are always likely to stick to names that are known to be effective.

Really ?......... :-? As far as I have researched and learned about digital cameras, ALL manufacturers are new in the digital SLR arena.......the technology is still in its infancy for everyone.

Agressive marketing and subsequent volume of sales doesn't necessarily mean "BEST".......if a tool fits the needs of the user, then why not buy by choice of needed features and not popularity of the masses ?........ Remember BetaMax ?

Just a thought........... :-X

Granted, they are all new to DSLRs, but Canon and Nikon were leaders in the field of SLR cameras that were used at the semi-pro or professional level. I am not trying to say they are the best at DSLRs, only that their reputation at the top level of camera manufacturing continues into the DSLR world. Someone who is casual about getting a DSLR and isn't all that bothered about it will be led to Canon or Nikon generally as a result.
