Austers & a few others

More from Popham last weekend. The venerable Auster is very popular now. This is the J/1 Autocrat, the first real civil Auster produced in 1946.

A nice Auster 6. This one served with the RAF, not the Army like so many of its type.

Great photos there Doug. I really wish airports in the US would have those sort of fly-ins.

These two look familiar but fooled me. I think they must have undergone a change of name. I've not seen it before. Anyone?


Mmm, did you think they were a pair of old Cap 10s? A pair of Piel Emeraudes?

I'm with Charlie on this one.......I noticed the rudder and fin and it's a tad different from the Cap-10 as I remember it, so my guess would be the Emmeraude too...........

Both you & Charlie are on the right track. The type has been known as the Piel CP-328 Super Emeraude & also the CAP Aviation 301S. The manufacturer is now listed as BINDER-AVIATIK GMBH & the two examples in my photos are registered as the CP301S SMARAGD, whatever that might mean.*

Shot #4 is a Druine D.62B

there are still airports in the US that have flyins like that, you just have to look a little for them ;)
