That is not a work of art, it is an classic aircraft that has been desecrated by vandals. No aircraft deserves to ends it's life being painted on and vandalised in a field by chavs whether there is one left or one hundred.

And even if it wasn't intended as art, I still think it delivers a nice artistic message.

Which is what exactly?

Got to agree with Heathaze on this one....

...what is artistic about graffiti?  I've seen some "artistic" street art before but what they did to that plane isn't art.  Just my opinion... ;D

I am just a train fan who happens to like flying and attempting to get the better of the mods especially those with 20/20 vision ;D ;D

Here's the story of that Lightning. http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/lightning/survivorspics2.html
Apparently one of only two surviving examples of an F.2A in the UK. The other one is in the Museum of Flight at East Fortune.

It's simply a lump of metal that somehow avoided the scrapman's torch. Might have been better if it hadn't. Sorry, I'm as keen on aircraft preservation as anybody (probably more so than most) but I have to agree with Heretic on this one.

PS. I wouldn't hold out too much hope of it ever being restored by the new owner.

I don't know why people hate the world so much. If they hate it they need to fix it.  :)

What is it doing there? Is that a junkyard?

It used to be a car scrapyard. Considering how long its been there it's survived remarkably, particularly with the "interesting" mix of the local population. I find it quite a landmark on the A1 nowadays. To be fair, when it began to end up in this state it was worth nothing more than scrap, and Binbrook was a real Lightning graveyard.
