Air Fest 2007 - part 2: statics

Postby beaky » Sat Mar 31, 2007 9:37 pm

Quite a few interesting residents and visitors- all operational, as far as I know...

Never seen a V-22 before; seems to be a helicopter that, in its shame, has tried to become an airplane.  It's not fooling anybody.  ;) ;D

One of several KC-135s based here... I didn't go inside this one.

I was tickled to find a T39 here... love these things.

Another one I didn't enter... a helicopter so enormous it demands respect. ;)... the mighty Super Stallion.

Good to see a capable old Hawkeye that is not a crusty museum piece:

Likewise one of two sun-bleached Buckeyes.

A F-5 done up in Cold War "adversary" colors:

A helicopter that doesn't assume it's worthy to carry human beings aloft: the  unmanned Boeing A160 Hummingbird.

Image

A "gummint" King Air- not sure what it's used for, but it sure is a nice one.

Image

And oh yeah, they had one of these things lying around... guarded by a USAF security guard with an M16... must be of some importance. ;D

Tragically, boys and girls, this exotic beast did not fly in the show... too bad.

BTW, whirlybird lovers: I will be giving the humble helicopter its due later in this series... ;D

Next: Let's tour some statics!!

Great shots, Sean in the first two of many posts of Air Fest 2007 Air Show I hope!!

But, that was a cruel, cruel thing you did to me!!
Calling on the phone and to say " Hey listen to this " as the Blue Angel's F/A-18's goes over!!

Admit it... it made your day. ;D

Oh, did you meet up with Kevin?

 Cory

No... he and the kids had to turn back. By the time they got parked, there was a line about 1/2 mile long to get in... I think they hung around in some shady spot outside the fence for a while... I was going to call as I was leaving, to try to meet up at least for a handshake, but I had to drive the crew back to the hotel, etc... totally forgot.  :-[

Isn't the red star a little outdated for that?
Or is it supposed to be a Chinese red star? ;)
