This is going to be a two poster I think.
While I dont like Mclaren, I personally think their way of operating is too cold and business like. And I also dislike Ron Dennis. There is no denying their racing history is one of the most incredible. So here are a couple of posts with some of their cars from the past 18 years.

I agree Craig, for me they're a team which is hard to like.

As a young 'un brought up watching our local boy Nige trying to win a World Championship in his Williams, constantly getting beaten by Senna in his red and white McLaren, it has fostered a certain animosity towards McLaren and Marlboro cigarettes ;D , so much so that Senna's efficiency in stalling Mansell was probably the strongest factor in me not smoking (for some reason I never associated Camel with cigarettes  ;) )

Still, despite that initial reaction, the red and white McLaren is also a potent reminder of Formula One when it was actually interesting to watch. Mansell's tyre exploding, Senna hitching a lift, Senna and Prost taking each other out, twice....wasn't it a McLaren that loomed out of the spray in a rear view camera and took the wing off a Brabham/Lotus/Tyrrell?

Ah yes....happy days.

Somehow the sport has lost all that, it just seems a bit of a procesion these days, maybe they need a few more Brummie drivers  ;)

RIP Ayrton

Senna and Prost taking each other out, twice
These two do it twice and its considered part of the sport and looked back on fondly. Schumacher does it once (lets not go into the australia one ::) ;D) and he's an evil cheat. Oh well. ::)

LOL but in all seriousness, I do miss those days so much. Or how about Ayrton Senna's amazing first lap in the rain at Donnington in 1993. To this day that is one of my clearest memories of Senna. I dont know why, i'll straight out admit I wasn't a fan of his, at the time I was a huge fan ol' Nige. But I think it was that moment that I truely understood what an amazing driver he was. I keep saying if they could only make the FW-14B and its counterparts race safe now, then they should go back to them. Get rid of all these wings and devices and just let the drivers be drivers. Clutch pedals, real gear shifts and as you say. Overtaking. My only real memory of the Senna Mansell taxi ride was Senna Kicking the marshall who tried to pull him from Nigels car. ;D

Funny...my strongest memory is of Mansell gesticulating to the marshall that he fully intended to give Senna a lift, and just you try to stop him! I can only imagine the Brummie oaths that were issued from under that helmet

;DLOL could you imagine the look on either frank williams face or Ron Dennis' at that moment though. :o

Before anyone says anything about my comment to do with being a nigel mansell fan in 93 I am aware he wasn't in F1 that point, I was still holding onto the hope he would be back ;) ;D

It was Senna, in a McLaren, taking the wing off Martin Brundle's Brabham.....and Craig found the link to prove it! Wait until 2.40 minutes left and look out for the red and white nose cone.

Only Senna would drive on 3 wheels back to the pits, in that weather  ;D

"Come on guys, you can fix it. The other 3 wheels are fine"

What a race, fantastic!

Reminded me of Gilles at Zandvoort '79 - although by the time he got back to the pits, he was mostly on two wheels ;D

careful 61 my friend ;) while I cant defend him for the Jerez incident I will defend him to my own death for everything else.  ;D And yes I will even say without a doubt that he is the best F1 driver in the sports history. Can't use the oh but he drove the modern cars excuse either as he did start out in the old "real men" cars ;) Sad to think though Rubens Barrichello (DC only just though) are the last of the old school drivers on the grid. With their retirements the new age of F1 will be official :'(

Well we can stay friends, but Australia forever blotted the copybook of Schuey for me......I can't deny that he was the best driver of his generation however, just a little too mercenary for me.....should have driven for McLaren   ;) ;D

Ok, ok....I'll stop....hmmm....what's that Williams post, that's more like it  8-)
